The Sognefjord & Nærøyfjord in a nutshell tour from Oslo is a highly enjoyable and scenic tour available during the summer season. The tour requires an overnight stay in Voss and you travel one-way from Oslo to Bergen. We highly recommend adding additional overnight stays during the tour! 

Sognefjord & Nærøyfjord in a nutshell tour from Oslo

Your tour from Oslo starts by taking the scenic Bergen Railway across the mountains from Oslo to Voss. The train trip offers excellent and varied views of Norway's shifting nature and takes about 5,5 hours. In Voss an overnight stay is required.

From Voss your trip continues by bus to Gudvangen. During this bus trip you will travel down the steep Stalheimskleiva! This is one of Northern Europe's steepest roads and winds its way through 13 sharp hairpin bends offering beautiful views.

From Gudvangen you embark on your fjord cruise on the UNESCO-protected Nærøyfjord. Have your camera ready - the Nærøyfjord offers stunning views of steep mountainsides, hanging valleys, towering peaks and waterfalls and is one of the best examples of Norway's natural beauty.

Upon arrival in Kaupanger, you continue your tour along the Sognefjord by bus from Kaupanger to Sogndal and Sogndal to Leikanger. The bus travels along the Sognefjord so your will get to see the mighty Sognefjord from land before you embark on an epic fjord cruise on the Sognefjord! The fjord cruise on the Sognefjord from Leikanger to Bergen takes approx. 4,5 hours and the boat stops in several quaint villages along it's route. During your time on the boat you will really get to see "the King of fjords" up close!

It is possible to disembark in for instance beautiful Balestrand and stay overnight before you continue your tour the following day.

Travel tip

We highly recommend adding an overnight stays to your tour in for instance Balestrand, Gudvangen or Voss. Also - be sure to join in on one of the exciting activities in the region!

Transfer points on the Sognefjord & Nærøyfjord in a nutshell

Bergen: The train departs from Bergen railway station. 
The express boat arrive Strandkaiterminalen. The terminal is situated next to the Fish Market and approx. 10 min. walk from Bergen railway station.

Voss: Change from train to bus or vice versa. The bus to Gudvangen departs at Voss Railway Station. The bus is located outside the railway station. Please look for the bus with sign for Gudvangen.

Gudvangen: Change from bus to boat. The bus park next to the harbour and connect with the tourist boat/fjord boat. Please look for the boat with sign for Kaupanger at the harbour.

Kaupanger:  Change from boat to bus. The bus for Sogndal departs from the fjord cruise boat quay. 

Sogndal: Change from bus to bus at Sogndal bus terminal. The buses are located close to one another at the terminal.

Leikanger: Change from express boat to bus or vice versa. The bus stops next to the express boat quay, right at the harbour.

Oslo: The trains for all our trips departs from the Oslo Central Railway Station (Oslo S).

Note: Not all transfer points are included on all tours. This depends on the tour alternative that you choose. You will of course receive a booking confirmation from us with a detailed itinerary for the tour you have selected. 

Are the tours guided?

No, there is no guide on our tours. You travel on your own by following the travel itinerary. On the tours including Norway in a nutshell®, you will also receive a "Norway in a nutshell® - Travelers Guide" booklet.

The connections and transfer points are all within close proximity of each other for easy transfer. Stops are always announced over the speakers.

How can I add a hotel to your trips?

Book the trip with overnight stay during the trip (2 days or more).
Choose place(s) to stay over. Available hotels in the place(s) you choose will show in the booking.

Can I cancel a trip booked online?

Trips bought online, can only be cancelled if you have bought the cancellation protection together with your trip. The cancellation protection is not a travel insurance. You can only use it if you need to cancel your trip and reason for cancelling is covered by this. If you need a full travel insurance, please contact an insurance company in your country.
