The Sognefjord in a nutshell & UNESCO Fjord Bus tour from Oslo
Your journey from Oslo starts by train on the Bergen Railway traveling westward through spectacular scenery. Upon arrival in Myrdal you change trains and take the stunning Flåm Railway down to Flåm. The Flåm Railway offers panoramic view of some of the wildest and most magnificent nature in Norway, and is by many considered to be the most beautiful train journey in the world.
From Flåm you travel with the fjord express boat on the Aurlandsfjord to Leikanger. When you arrive in Leikanger, a bus will be waiting for you to take you to Sogndal where an overnight stay is required.
From Sogndal you take the UNESCO Fjord Bus tour towards Geiranger. On the journey from Sogndal to Geiranger you travel through the Nordfjord region with various and beautiful fjord villages like Fjærland, Loen and Olden.
Along the way you can stay the night in for example Loen. Here you can experience the spectacular new attraction and adventure arena Hoven Loen. Take the Loen Skylift which will lift you from the fjord to an altitude of 1011 meters in a matter of minutes! Here you can enjoy the views of the fjord landscape from a restaurant table or go hiking in one of the many trails on the mountain.
From Loen you travel through the village of Stryn and arrive in Geiranger, a magnificent village at the narrow end of the Geirangerfjord. Upon arrival in Geiranger you will enjoy marvelous views of the fjord below from the breathtaking view point Flydalsjuvet, perched high above Geiranger village.
In Geiranger you will have optional activities to choose from, as for example kayaking, taking a rib-boat safari or fjord cruise, or simply relaxing and enjoying the sites in this World Heritage Area. You return to Sogndal either the same day or after your overnight stay(s) in Geiranger.
From Sogndal you travel by bus to Leikanger and embark on an express boat trip on the Sognefjord to Bergen. The express boat trip takes about five hours and the boat stops at several picturesque villages along the route. On this part of the trip you'll really get to see the "King of fjords" up close!
If you are taking the tour as a one-way trip, your tour ends in beautiful Bergen. On round trips you follow the itinerary as described above and travel back to Oslo either with the night train from Bergen, or after your overnight stay(s) in Bergen.
