Northern Lights & Norway in a nutshell®

Northern Lights & Norway in a nutshell® tour from Bergen

  • Tours

See the Northern Lights and experience Norway's beautiful fjord scenery on the famous Norway in a nutshell® tour.

This breathtaking trip combines the popular Norway in a nutshell® tour with your very own Northern Lights adventure! The trip can be taken from Bergen with return to Bergen or as a round trip via Oslo before returning back to Bergen.

Northern Lights excursion

You start your tour from Bergen by flying north to the arctic city of Tromsø, where an overnight stay is required. During your stay in Tromsø, a 7-hour Northern Lights excursion to Camp Tamok is included. You can take the Northern Lights excursion the same day as you arrive in Tromsø, or the following day.

Because of it’s inland climate with stable dry weather, Camp Tamok is considered one of the prime locations to see the Aurora Borealis. You will therefore have excellent chances of spotting the frail rays of this beauty!

You will be equipped with an insulated body suit, boots, gloves, headwear and head lamp. The excursion also includes a hot meal, a short nighttime hike and social time by the open fire in the big lavvu (Sami herdsmen’s tent). After your stay in Tromsø is completed, you travel back to Bergen where an overnight stay is required.

The Norway in a nutshell® tour

From Bergen you embark on the popular Norway in a nutshell tour®! On this part of the tour you will experience the mountains and fjords with the scenic Bergen Railway, the Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord on a fjord cruise, as well as the stunning Flåm Railway! From Myrdal (the highest stop on the Flåm Railway), you can sit back, relax and enjoy the scenic train ride back to your starting point in Bergen.

If you choose to take this tour via Oslo, you first travel on the Norway in a nutshell® tour as described above, as far as to Myrdal on the Flåm Railway. From Myrdal you continue on the Bergen Railway to Oslo where an overnight stay is required. You continue your tour from Oslo by flying to Tromsø and the Northern Lights excursion as described above. From Tromsø, you travel back to your starting point in Bergen by plane.

Travel tip

There are two different options to complete this trip, either from Bergen and return or from Bergen via Oslo completing the trip back to Bergen. You decide this in the booking process, depending on your wishes. We highly recommend that you add overnight stays during your tour. We especially recommend an an extra night in Tromsø, where there are several exiting and adventurous activities you can add to your tour. Why not try out a snow mobile safari or even a dog sledding trip!

You travel on your own by following your travel itinerary. On the Norway in a nutshell® part of the tour, you will also receive a handy and informative "Norway in a nutshell® - Travelers Guide" booklet.
