On this tour you will experience a varied scenery with high snow capped mountains, crystal clear fjords and impressive frozen waterfalls! You take your tour from Oslo as a roundtrip with return to Oslo and travel by fjord cruise, railway and bus through a magical winter landscape. The tour from Oslo requires two overnight stays along the route; one in Bergen and one in Eidfjord.
You start your journey from Oslo by traveling across the mountain plateau with snow-capped mountains in central Norway, offering views of the rugged highland nature. Upon arrival in Bergen, an overnight stay is required. Bergen has a lot to offer all year round and is a picturesque city during the winter months.
After one or more overnight stays in Bergen, you take a costal express cruise to beautiful Rosendal in the Hardangerfjord. During winter the coastline and fjords are serene, magical and spectacular. The little village of Rosendal is surrounded by majestic mountains and Norway's only Barony (built in the 17th century) is located here.
The tour continues with a scenic bus trip along the Hardangerfjord to the fjord villages of Odda, Lofthus and Eidfjord. The scenery along the Hardangerfjord offers a landscape of beautiful fruit communities, tall mountains and impressive glaciers.
Winter activities & local food
Once in Eidfjord, exciting winter experiences awaits! A bus will take you to Fossatromma viewpoint with excellent views of the magnificent Vøringsfossen waterfall. A guide will meet you once you disembark, tell you about the waterfall and give you insight to the local history and culture. During winter this large waterfall is often frozen, which is truly a special sight!
After seeing the waterfall, you can get in touch with you Viking Spirit and experience the Norwegian winter climate in safe surroundings with a professional guide. You will be able to try out snowshoes, snow sledding or other fun Norwegian winter activities! A lavvu and bonfire is also in place to ensure warmth and comfort, in case the weather is bad. Local warm food and drinks will be served inside the lavvu, accompanied with tales and storytelling by locals!
After a long and eventful winter day, an overnight stay in Eidfjord is both required and well deserved. Enjoy a good nights sleep followed by a hearty breakfast, so that you are ready for your visit to the Norwegian Nature Center, a modern experience centre for natural and cultural history!
Once your visit to the Nature Center is over a bus will take you to Voss, where you continue your tour by traveling on the Bergen Railway back to your starting point in Oslo.
