The Norway in a nutshell® winter tour from Bergen
Starting from Bergen you first set out on a scenic train journey to Voss on the Bergen Railway. From Voss you travel by bus through charming villages and scenic winter landscapes, towards Gudvangen.
The bus will arrive in Gudvangen, where you continue the tour by taking a fjord cruise on the on the narrow Nærøyfjord and the magnificent Aurlandsfjord. The Aurlandsfjord is a picturesque fjord that offers stunning winter views, while the Nærøyfjord is a dramatic fjord surrounded by snow-capped mountains. Nærøyfjorden is one of the most narrow fjords in Europe and included on UNESCO's World Heritage List.
After your fjord cruise you arrive in the small village of Flåm, nestled in the innermost part of the Aurlandsfjord, where your tour continues by taking the legendary Flåm Railway. The Flåm Railway offers spectacular panoramic views to some of the wildest and most magnificent winter nature in the Norwegian fjord landscape.
The Flåm Railway will arrive in Myrdal, where you change trains to the Bergen Railway. You travel back to Bergen on round trips, or continue through scenic mountain winter terrain to Oslo on one-way trips.
There are several different ways of completing this tour, both as a round trip or as a one-way trip. You decide which option suits you best during an easy booking process. You travel on your own by following your travel itinerary. When booking a tour, you will also gain access to the Fjord Tours Travel Guide APP which is a "digital guidebook" for your tour. Read more about the app HERE.
Traveling in the winter season is highly recommended, since there are less people and more room for travelers to enjoy the view. You can complete the tour in one day, but we highly recommend that you take your time by adding overnight stays and activities along the route!
By taking your time, you can enjoy the beautiful scenery or participate in several exciting winter activities. What about a winter fjord safari with viking dinner or some snowshoe hiking in Flåm?
One last tip: Dress warmly and bundle up - it can get very cold in the fjords!
