Sognefjord in a nutshell tour from Oslo
The Sognefjord, Norway’s longest and deepest fjord, extends more than 200 km inland to the foot of the Jotunheimen mountains. This area is said to be one of the most beautiful travel destinations in the world.
The Sognefjord in a nutshell tour combines a beautiful boat journey on the Sognefjord, with a spectacular train journey on the Flåm Railway. Starting in Oslo, you can take the tour as a round trip with return to Oslo, or as a one way trip to Bergen. The trip can be completed in one day, or as a longer journey over several days.
We recommend you to take your time by adding overnight stays and activities along the route. That way you can enjoy the beautiful scenery or partake in exciting activity such as for instance kayaking, hiking or even going on a fjord safari! There are loads of options for activities and hotels along the route, for instance in places such as in Flåm, Bergen and Oslo.
The tour includes train journeys through spectacular nature on the Bergen Railway and the famous Flåm Railway. The express boat on the Sognefjord from Flåm to Bergen takes approx. 5 hours. The boat stops in several quaint villages along it's route and gives you a great opportunity to see "the King of fjords" up close. It is possible to disembark in for instance Balestrand and stay overnight before you continue your tour the following day.
