Hike the Icons - Trolltunga
Trolltunga is one of Norway's most spectacular hiking trips. Standing on top of the famous Trolltunga is an exhilarating experience that you will never forget. Embarking on a Trolltunga Hike is not the most easily accessible experience, we have therefore made it easy for you by packaging a tour from either Bergen, Stavanger or Oslo!
Your hiking adventure from Bergen starts by taking a costal express cruise to beautiful Rosendal in the Hardangerfjord. Rosendal is a charming little village surrounded by majestic mountains. From Rosendal you continue your tour with a scenic bus trip along the Hardangerfjord to the fjord village of Odda, where an overnight stay is required.
Hiking to Trolltunga
After a relaxing night in Odda you are ready for your hiking adventure! There are two hiking options you can select to experience the magical Trolltunga. Please note that the different options may depend on season and availability.
Classic Trolltunga Hike
The classic Trolltunga hike starts in Skjeggedal and a bus will transport you to Skjeggedal from Odda. After meeting your guide and preparing for the tour a shuttle will take you from Skjeggedal to Mågelitopp, where the actual hike starts. From Mågelitopp you'll have a stunning view of the Folgefonna National Park, before the trip continues on towards Tyssebotn.
In Tyssebotn you'll find giant marmites, deep holes in the mountain made by sand and stone rotating in the now drought Tyssestrengene waterfall. The hike continues to the trip´s highlight: Trolltunga. A memorable nature attraction, with a stunning view of the Ringedal lake and the Folgefonna glacier.
Trolltunga Via Ferrata
The Trolltunga Via Ferrata tour will overwhelm you with nature's beauty and get your heart beating with adrenaline as you scale a 250 m. wall to get to Trolltunga!
This tour option also includes biking along the beautiful Ringedalen lake, hiking up the amazing valley and climbing the Via Ferrata "ladder" to the Trolltunga Plateau, before reaching the world famous highlight Trolltunga!
The trip starts with a bicycle ride along the Ringedal lake. After about six kilometer on your bike you continue on a 500 meter hike upwards, which will bring you to the start of the Trolltunga Via Ferrata route.
The Via Ferrata route is filled with impressive attractions and impressions and is guaranteed to bring some butterflys to your tummy!
Starting from Stavanger
If you choose to start from Stavanger you take the costal express bus from Stavanger to Bergen and continue the tour as described above. When you return to Bergen, you travel by costal express bus back to your starting point in Stavanger.
Starting from Oslo
If you choose to start from Oslo you go by train to Voss and take the bus to Odda. After a good nights sleep you are ready for you hiking adventure. You can choose to stay in Odda or Voss after your hike, and travel to Oslo or Bergen by train from Voss.
Travel Tip & Important Information
If you would like to add an extra layer to your hiking experience, we highly recommend spending some time in Rosendal. Here you can join in on one of the many hiking activities as a "warm-up" to your hike to Trolltunga.
A guide will be with you during your selected hiking trip. Your guide will ensure that you take the hike in a safe manner, as well as providing interesting information and stories along the way.
We have to stress the importance of being well prepared for these hikes both physically and by bringing the right equipment and supplies. We recommend that you bring hiking clothes and shoes according to the forecasted weather, food for the hike and a 30-40 L. backpack with some extra warm clothes/change of clothing in case of bad weather.
At 21:00 the day before your hike, an information meeting will be held at the Trolltunga Hotel in Odda. During the meeting your guide will inform about the hike, equipment needed, weather forecast and more.
After you have booked you tour, you will receive a detailed document including your route and transfer points, what to bring and other practical information.
Enjoy your tour!
