Hardangerfjord in a nutshell Winter Tour

Hardangerfjord in a nutshell Winter tour from Bergen

See and experience the magnificent Norwegian coastline and explore the winter scenery in the inner reaches of the beautiful Hardangerfjord! On the Hardangerfjord in a nutshell Winter tour from Bergen you will also get to experience how Norwegians have fun during winter and enjoy a traditional homemade Norwegian meal in a cozy lavvu!

On this tour you will experience a varied scenery with high snow capped mountains, crystal clear fjords and impressive frozen waterfalls! You can take the tour from Bergen as a roundtrip with return to Bergen or as a one-way trip to Oslo. You travel by fjord cruise, railway and bus through a magical winter landscape. The tour from Bergen requires a minimum of one overnight stay in Eidfjord, but we highly recommend adding overnight stays along the route.

You start your journey from Bergen by taking a costal express cruise to beautiful Rosendal in the Hardangerfjord. During winter the coastline and fjords are serene, magical and spectacular. The little village of Rosendal is surrounded by majestic mountains and Norway's only Barony (built in the 17th century) is located here.

The tour continues with a scenic bus trip along the Hardangerfjord to the fjord villages of Odda, Lofthus and Eidfjord. The scenery along the Hardangerfjord offers a landscape of beautiful fruit communities, tall mountains and impressive glaciers.

Winter activities & local food

Once in Eidfjord, exciting winter experiences awaits! A bus will take you to Fossatromma viewpoint with excellent views of the magnificent Vøringsfossen waterfall. A guide will meet you once you disembark, tell you about the waterfall and give you insight to the local history and culture. During winter this large waterfall is often frozen, which is truly a special sight!

After seeing the waterfall, you can get in touch with you Viking Spirit and experience the Norwegian winter climate in safe surroundings with a professional guide. You will be able to try out snowshoes, snow sledding or other fun Norwegian winter activities! A lavvu and bonfire is also in place to ensure warmth and comfort, in case the weather is bad. Local warm food and drinks will be served inside the lavvu, accompanied with tales and storytelling by locals!

After a long and eventful winter day, an overnight stay in Eidfjord is both required and well deserved. Enjoy a good nights sleep followed by a hearty breakfast, so that you are ready for your visit to the Norwegian Nature Center, a modern experience centre for natural and cultural history!

Once the visit to the Nature Center is over a bus will take you to Voss. From here you continue your tour by traveling on the Bergen Railway back to Bergen, or through rugged highland nature across the mountains to Oslo.
